5-Minute Makeup Challenge? I'm Obsessed!

HaircareOctober 17, 20255 min read

Seriously, who *doesn't* need a super quick makeup routine for busy autumn mornings? I've cracked it, and you'll love how easy it is!

Okay, besties, gather 'round! You know I'm all about skincare, but let's be real, some mornings are just… chaotic. Especially with the autumn transition; suddenly it's dark, cold, and you're scrambling to get out the door. That's when my 5-minute makeup challenge comes to the rescue!

Why 5 Minutes? Seriously?

I hear you. Five minutes sounds impossible, right? It did to me! But I've been experimenting, and honestly, you can achieve a lovely, polished look in that time if you prioritise and use the right products. It's all about multi-tasking and skipping unnecessary steps. Trust me on this.

My Go-To 5-Minute Face

Here's what I've been doing lately. Remember, it's not about perfection, it's about feeling good and confident!

  • Hydration Station (30 seconds): This is non-negotiable, even in a rush. I spritz on a hydrating toner – currently loving the Pixi Glow Tonic (available at Boots) – and follow with a lightweight moisturiser. I tried skipping this once last week and my skin was not happy by lunchtime. Dryness galore! A good shout for the colder weather is the No7 HydraLuminous Water Surge Gel Moisturiser. It sinks in fast and doesn't leave you feeling greasy. I've found it's better than some of the way more expensive moisturisers I've tried! Honestly, I wasted money on so many expensive ones before finding this gem.
  • Tinted Moisturiser or BB Cream (1 minute): Forget full-coverage foundation! A tinted moisturiser or BB cream evens out your skin tone without feeling heavy. My favourite is the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser. It's a bit of a splurge, but worth it for the glow it gives. For a budget-friendly option, the Garnier BB Cream is brilliant and available at any high street chemist. Apply it with your fingers for speed and ease. You'll thank me later.
  • Concealer (1 minute): Just target any blemishes or under-eye circles. I use the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – it's an absolute steal at under £5 and actually lasts! Dab it on with your ring finger and gently blend. Pro tip: a little goes a long way!
  • Cream Blush (1 minute): This is my secret weapon for a healthy, radiant flush. I adore the Rare Beauty Melting Cream Blush. It's pigmented, blends like a dream, and gives the prettiest dewy finish. Pop it on the apples of your cheeks and blend upwards. You can even dab a tiny bit on your lips for a cohesive look. If you want something cheaper, try the Barry M Fresh Face Cheek and Lip Tint.
  • Mascara (1 minute 30 seconds): A couple of coats of mascara instantly opens up your eyes. I'm currently obsessed with the Benefit They're Real! Mascara. It lengthens, volumises, and doesn't smudge. Plus, it's often on offer at Look Fantastic! Give your lashes a quick curl beforehand if you've got the time, but it's not essential. If you are going to curl them though, do it before mascara, not after! Trust me, I tried this when I was younger and it wasn't a pretty sight.
  • Tips & Tricks for Speed

    * Prep the Night Before: Lay out your clothes, pack your bag, and even choose the makeup products you'll be using. It saves precious minutes in the morning.

    * Multi-Tasking Products are Your Friend: Cream blush for cheeks and lips? Yes, please! Tinted moisturiser with SPF? Double win!

    * Keep it Simple: This isn't the time for elaborate eyeshadow looks or perfectly winged eyeliner. Focus on the basics that make you feel good.

    * Practice Makes Perfect: The more you do this routine, the faster you'll become. I promise!

Haircare Quick Fixes (Because It's Haircare Week!)

Okay, so whilst we are talking about speedy mornings, let's quickly chat hair. I know, I know, we're supposed to be talking makeup, but it all goes hand-in-hand, doesn't it? If your hair is a mess, your makeup is gonna be a struggle. Look, here's the thing: here are some of my favourite quick fixes:

    * Dry Shampoo is a Lifesaver: Batiste is a classic for a reason. It soaks up oil and adds volume. Spray it at the roots, massage it in, and brush through. Sorted! I've found that the coloured ones are great if you have darker hair, they don't leave that annoying white cast!

    * A Quick Bun or Ponytail: When all else fails, a sleek bun or ponytail is always chic. Add a stylish hair accessory for extra polish. I've been loving scrunchies lately - so comfy and cute!

Plaits: If you've got a bit more time and want something that looks* like you put in effort, but actually didn't, plaits are great. Even just a few simple plaits at the front can frame your face and make you look put-together.

And don't forget to check out my other posts on all things scalp health! I've been raving about it recently. Seriously, a healthy scalp is the foundation for amazing hair growth. Autumn Skincare Transition

Let's quickly touch on the skincare side of this autumn transition. As the weather gets colder and drier, it's time to adjust your routine. Swap out your lightweight moisturiser for something richer and more nourishing. Add a hydrating serum to combat dryness. And don't forget your SPF, even on cloudy days!

I've been using the Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser Rich, it's a proper treat in the evenings before bed.

    The Challenge is ON!
