TikTok Hair Hacks - Did These REALLY Work?

HaircareOctober 19, 20256 min read

Alright, besties, let's dive into the wild world of TikTok hair hacks! I put my locks on the line, so you don't have to...maybe!

Okay, lovelies, grab a cuppa, because we need to chat! You KNOW I'm obsessed with TikTok – for a laugh, for the dancing, and, yeah, for the endless stream of supposedly life-changing beauty hacks. This time, I'm tackling the hair ones. I've been testing viral TikTok hair hacks for weeks, and I'm ready to spill the tea on what's actually worth trying and what's a total flop. Get ready for some honest opinions! We're diving into hair care, autumn style!

The Viral Wonders (and Wonders Gone Wrong!)

Let's get straight to it. I've seen so many hair hacks promising everything from instant volume to perfectly heatless curls, and I just HAD to try them. Here's what I've found.

Hack #1: The Sock Bun Curl Revival

Okay, so this one's been around for ages, but it's still doing the rounds on TikTok. The promise? Heatless curls overnight using just a sock! You basically wrap sections of your damp hair around a sock (or two, depending on length), sleep on it, and wake up with bouncy curls.

My Verdict: Honestly? This one's a winner! It takes a bit of practise to get right, though. The first time I tried it, I woke up looking like I'd been dragged through a hedge backwards! But after a couple of attempts, I managed to get some really lovely, soft waves. It's super gentle on your hair too, which is a massive bonus, especially with the colder weather drying everything out. I'd give this an 8/10. Plus, it's budget-friendly! You can use any old sock (clean, obviously!). Just try it, you'll thank me later!

Hack #2: The Rice Water Rinse

Oh, the rice water rinse! Supposedly, this ancient beauty secret promotes hair growth and strengthens your strands. You soak rice in water, strain it, and then use the milky water as a final rinse after shampooing.

My Verdict: This one was...interesting. I tried this when I had a free afternoon last week, and while I did notice a slight difference in the shine of my hair, the smell was a bit off-putting. It's not a bad smell, exactly, but it's definitely noticeable. I also found it a little bit fiddly to prepare the rice water. It's a bit more effort than I usually put into my haircare routine. I might give this another go, but for now, it's a 6/10. I need more convincing, and maybe a scented version!

Hack #3: The Dry Shampoo Volume Trick

This hack involves applying dry shampoo before you go to bed, rather than in the morning when your hair is already greasy. The idea is that the dry shampoo absorbs oil overnight, leaving you with volume in the morning.

My Verdict: This is genius! Absolute genius! I've been doing this for a couple of weeks now, and it's made a HUGE difference to my hair. I wake up with so much more volume and my hair looks fresher for longer. I use the Batiste dry shampoo, you can find it in Boots, and it's a classic for a reason. 10/10. Seriously, try this one! Trust me on this one.

Hack #4: The Scalp Massager for Hair Growth

Another popular one! These little rubbery tools are supposed to stimulate blood flow to your scalp, promoting hair growth. You use them in the shower whilst shampooing or on dry hair with oil.

My Verdict: I'm on the fence with this one. It feels lovely, like a mini head massage, and I do believe that scalp massage is good for hair growth. However, I haven't noticed any significant difference in my hair growth since using it. Maybe it takes time? I'll keep using it because it feels nice, but I'm not convinced it's a miracle cure. 5/10. It's a nice addition, but don't expect overnight miracles.

Hack #5: The Hair Oil "Slug"

Hair slugging involves coating your hair in oil and wrapping it up overnight.

My Verdict: This didn't work for me at all. I have quite fine hair, and slugging left it so greasy and heavy that I had to wash it twice to get the oil out. I looked like I had dipped my head in a chip pan. If you have very dry, thick hair, this might work for you, but it's a no-go for me. 2/10. Absolute disaster.

My Holy Grail Hair Products (That Aren't TikTok Hacks!)

Whilst we're chatting about hair, I thought I'd share a few of my absolute favourite hair products that I swear by, regardless of what TikTok is telling me!

* Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector: This stuff is liquid gold! It repairs damaged hair and leaves it feeling so soft and strong. It's a bit pricey (around £28 from Look Fantastic), but it's worth every penny.

* Moroccanoil Treatment: This oil is a classic for a reason. It adds shine, tames frizz, and smells amazing. You can pick it up at most salons or online.

* Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Advanced Clean Dry Shampoo: This is my absolute favourite dry shampoo. It actually cleans your hair, rather than just masking the grease. It's a bit more expensive than Batiste (around £20 from Space NK), but it's worth the splurge if you use dry shampoo regularly.

The Final Verdict

So, there you have it! My honest review of some of the most viral TikTok hair hacks. Some were amazing, some were a complete waste of time, and some were just plain weird. The key is to experiment and find what works for you. Don't be afraid to try new things, but also don't believe everything you see on the internet!

Remember, gorgeous hair starts with a good routine and products that work for your hair type. Happy experimenting! And let me know in the comments which hair hacks you've tried and what you thought. I'm always up for trying new things (as long as they don't involve any more sock buns disasters!).

Stay fabulous, my lovelies!

Love,
